Tinsel – The Final Shifter of Consequence Tale

Two mates and me living under one roof. What could go wrong?

A lot, actually. We’ve got a half-shifter, half-witch on our tails, scooping up girls from our pack. She’s like a ghost, so tracking her and trapping her is like sifting air. Especially since her chief henchman is a hawk shifter with an axe to grind. Possibly literally.

The females in my pack are being hunted, and I’m not going to stand for it one second longer. I have to do something. I just don’t know what yet.

My mate and my almost-mate are now living under one roof, and the word awkward doesn’t even begin to describe what’s going on. But the pressure is on, and Samson will be mine sooner than later. Their legacy of rivalry is far too entrenched for twin brothers who should have one another’s back. And I know who caused it.

But Samson wants me, and I want him.

And we all want safety and peace for the pack.

Tremble is the 7th book in a paranormal reverse harem shifter series featuring members of the Midnight Alder Pack. This is the third and final volume of Christie’s story.   Chapter One

“Hello, beautiful.” Tris pulled back the covers. He slipped inside next to me, and I rolled over to get close to his warmth. Wolves were always a bit hotter than others, or so I’d been told since I hadn’t actually cuddled with anyone else, but Tris seemed to be just a degree warmer than anyone else. And on a cold night in the late fall, I welcomed the furnace of his body. “Sorry I stayed up so late.”

“It’s okay,” I murmured, resting my head on his chest. “I was waiting for you to get here.”

“Were you?” He stroked a lock of hair back from my face and kissed the bit of forehead he’d bared. “Did you have anything special in mind?”

My cheeks burned. No matter how often we made love, he had the ability to make me blush. It was never ordinary or boring or something I took for granted. In our situation, nothing was guaranteed. Until he and his brother got their act together, our mating was incomplete.

“Christie?” he prodded. “What can I do for you?”

“How do you make that sound so naughty,” I muttered against his skin, inhaling his scent that said home more than any particular building ever could.

“You bring that out in me, sweet girl.” He trailed a finger down my back all the way to the crease of my bottom. “Especially when you sleep naked.”

Naked? Was I…why didn’t I remember making that choice?

“So, are you going to make a special request?” he teased, tipping my face up to brush his lips over mine. “Or are we just going to sleep.”

Two could play at this game. I opened my jaw wide in a yawn that, even in the darkness of the bedroom, with only weak moonlight, he couldn’t miss. “I’m awfully sleepy. I’ll take option B. Night-night.” I planted one more chaste kiss on his lips and snuggled down. “See you in the morning.”

The low rumble came from deep inside him before he flipped me onto my back and rose to loom over me. Even though I’d never fear he’d hurt me, a chill ran down my spine at the gleam in those beautiful eyes. His wolf put a gold cast on them when we made love, as if I should never forget he was more than just a man. His lips crashed into mine, taking possession, dominating me in a new way. When he lifted his head, he arched a brow. “Still sleepy?”

“No,” I gasped. “I’m wide awake now.”

“That’s better.” Kissing me again, he palmed my breasts, the nipples hardening under his touch. I submitted to him, happy to let our teasing play go in favor of passion. He explored my mouth with lips, teeth, and tongue before leaving it behind to nibble his way down my throat and to where he held my breasts ready for his oral attentions.

“Oh my gods,” I whimpered when he sucked one nipple into his mouth while pinching the other between thumb and forefinger. “You—it’s always new with you.” Not that he hadn’t indulged in breast play before, but this time there was a new edge. He bit a little harder, sucked a little deeper, and stayed a little longer before continuing on down my torso.

His tongue lapped at my navel, tickling, and I writhed under him until he pinned me with one big hand spanning my hips. “Shh. I am busy here.” And he was so busy, moving to lie between my thighs after urging them apart and resting them on his shoulders. “And hungry.”

“Is the Big Bad Wolf going to eat up Little Red?” Sorry, I couldn’t resist.

“Let’s find out.” He blew on my swollen, aching folds and looked up my body at me. “Do you think she wants me to?”

“Y-yes please.” The tremble in my voice held all the yearning I had for him to do that. “Please, please gobble me up.”

  He pre
ssed his lips to me and chuckled. The vibration traveled all the way to my toes and back up to my head. “Mmm.” I gripped the sheets on either side as he took a long lick from front to back then blew again, inflaming my desire even more. “So sweet, just as I thought.” He buried his face in me, licking and nibbling, one finger finding its way into my pussy and pumping. I’d never felt anything quite like it before, as if he’d changed up his technique to something equally good but different. Amazing. And when a second finger joined the first, I shrieked and fell over the edge into a sparkling night filled with multicolored stars.

Before I returned to myself, he was on top of me, replacing those fingers with his cock. I released the sheets and linked my hands behind his neck, legs around his waist, while he rode me like an unbroken mare. He braced himself on his arms over me and drove in, withdrew, and drove in again until I was just screaming, overwhelmed and coming. Coming so many times I lost count. When he poured his cum into me, I was already floating far away above my body, watching it twitch in overstimulation but never wanting it to stop.

“Christie, come on. Breakfast is ready.” Someone grabbed my shoulder, pulling me out of the magical place where orgasms and love blended into a perfect reality. “You’ll be late for school.”

I forced my eyes open to see Samson standing over me. “Oh…hi.”

“Hi. You were really out of it there. Do you need to stay home? Feel okay?”

Blinking in bright daylight, I shook my head. “No. Lazy, I guess. I was dreaming. Is there coffee?”

“Of course.” He set my favorite cartoon wolf mug on the night table. “I made it just the way you like it.” Samson wrinkled his nose. “So sweet with all that sugar.”

So sweet, just as I thought.

Oh my gods…was he, was that? I sat up and untangled my nightgown from around my legs as he left, shaking his head at my coffee choices. The sheets and blankets lay smooth around me, not at all as if anyone had made love here. Although deep inside I wished Samson had made love to me, it hadn’t been him, not really. Not even Tris as I’d believed. Just a vivid dream. But maybe one that could come true?

  Chapter Two

My coffee cup had barely touched my lips when a loud banging came at the door. I nearly jumped out of my skin, still a little squirmy from the dream.

“What the hell?” I barked and looked at Samson. He pushed his fingers through his hair and blew out a breath. Since Tris and I and my grandmother, Gigi, had moved into the alpha house, for our safety, things had been tense, but I hoped the proximity would help move things along with the alpha’s and my relationship as well.

He stomped to the door while pulling on a T-shirt. I watched in awe as his back muscles pulled and stretched. That poor shirt was begging for mercy after being tugged and finagled over those shoulders. What I wouldn’t give to have my hands on those them, letting them be my anchor while I…

Shit. I needed to cool down. Instead of hot coffee this morning, I should’ve been having a cold shower.

  Not that it would’ve helped.

“I forgot how this alpha house thing works,” Tris said sleepily as he came down the stairs in nothing but his pajama pants. As Samson answered the door with zero finesse whatsoever, Tris took my coffee cup and finished it off in one swig. How he could do that without burning the shit out of his mouth was beyond me.

“It’s from being in the Navy. You learn to ignore the burn just to get the caffeine in you.”

I squinted at him and leaned against his bare torso. “You’re not in the Navy anymore.”

He chuckled, the motion jostling us both. “Old habits die hard.”

I’d watched Samson answer the door and step out before returning He shut the door behind him. He closed his eyes, and slammed his head backward. “I can’t catch a break.”

“What is it?” I crossed the distance between us and put my hands on his stomach only to swiftly take them back again.

“There’s a new scorch mark on a tree. This time on the southern perimeter. One of the kids saw it this morning while out with his parents for some exercise. My people can’t even take a walk without being reminded of what looms around us. I hate this for my pack.”

I took his hands in mine, not caring he hadn’t crossed that line yet. My touch would soothe him and, if nothing else, bring him a glimpse of peace.

He blew out a sigh, his cream-and-coffee breath fanning over me as his eyes finally opened and locked with mine. “How do you do that?” he whispered and, like a knot being unwound, his shoulders relaxed and his breathing evened out.

“She has a gift for it,” Tris offered as he walked up the stairs, a second cup of coffee in his hand.

“He’s right. You do.” He waited until Tris was had disappeared down the upstairs hallway before returning my affection, rubbing circles on my hand with his thumb. I swallowed against the boulder in my throat and tried to ignore the weakening of my knees.

“Do you want to go see it? Maybe we can find something? Pick up on a scent?” My words were a broken record. I felt like Velma looking for clues but without glasses, or a brain for that matter. We’d searched until we were dizzy but found little. This Opal person who had been menacing our pack was good. At being evil.

But we had to be better. For our people.

“You have school, female.” When he called me female, a thousand tingles raced down my spine and then my legs. My core pulled taut, and I sucked in a breath.

  “I can skip today.”

He growled, deep in his chest, and my wolf got up inside me, silently answering his call. “You have school. I won’t take you away from that.”

I squared my shoulders and pushed out my chest. His eyes dipped to my cleavage. I was well aware my tank top showed off my assets. My nipples hardened just at his gaze on me.

Fuck. I knew he would be incredible when we mated. We would be incredible together. By the time we did, I would probably explode in seconds.

“I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but I’m a big girl, Samson. I make my own decisions about my time and how it is spent. We have to help our people, and, this morning, this is how I’m choosing to do it. Is that clear?” By the time I finished speaking, my chest was pressed to his, and our lips were only inches apart.

He shifted his weight from one foot to the other. “You’re clear, Christie.”

Before I could drive my point in further, his lips crashed down on mine. He tasted like coffee an, the char of extra-dark toast. His arms encircled my waist, and I let him pull me against his body. Each inch of me was plastered against each inch of him. If I’d wondered if he truly wanted me before, there was no question about it now.

“Are we searching or what?” Tris’ voice had Samson breaking away from me, and it was like he teleported across the damned room in one second, leaving me looking at the door.

“Yeah, we are searching. Always searching for something just out of reach. Isn’t that right, Samson?” I stomped up the stairs to get outdoor clothing on, old stuff I wouldn’t mind shredding when I shifted if it happened fast.

Fuck. Now I really needed that cold shower.

  Chapter Three

Our search didn’t happen. Just as we were getting ready to go, a pair of older females showed up to discuss something regarding winter supplies that hadn’t come in or weren’t going to come in or…hell I had no idea. But at that point, I wasn’t at all interested in doing my hair and makeup or putting on an outfit for school, so I still didn’t go. Instead, I went to my room and spent time online, searching for some kind of link to the constant threats to our pack. I didn’t find much, so I grabbed the online version of the class I had that day and watched that then did the reading and some studying.

The tension between my mates, if I could call them both that, was getting worse every day now that we shared a room—the precise opposite of what I’d hoped for, but we made it through another day, with Gigi’s presence helping with civility. Having my grandmother living with us was a boon in s
o many ways. After dinner, she went to Wendi’s to help her with a patient, something she’d been doing often. Kind of like she was the healer’s nurse. As whacky as my grandmother could be, she had a soothing presence when she chose to use it. She also said hanging around the house with the three of us made her nervous.

Hell. It made me nervous, too.

But be that as it may, I woke up the next day ready to try again. To find Opal and/or her henchman. To excel at school. And to finagle at least a semblance of peace in our home. I ran through my routine of showering, hair, and makeup—so I could go to class without scaring the other students—then headed downstairs in one of my favorite outfits. With the weather getting cooler by the day, I wore a fuzzy sweater over leggings and boots. I would add a jacket after breakfast.

It was still early, and I tied an apron around my waist and got to work making breakfast for my guys. Having heard Gigi come in very late, I didn’t expect her up for a while, so I took advantage of the privacy for a conversation. I only hoped I could make a dent in their stubbornness. Why the goddess thought I needed two of the hardest-headed wolves in existence I had no idea. Maybe I did something questionable in a previous life.

Blending the batter for crepes, I considered the fact that while they were obstinate and really bad at listening to reason, they did have good points. I left the batter to rest while frying up bacon, ham, and sausages, all dear to the hearts of meat-loving wolf shifters. Cracking eggs into a bowl, I also considered how grateful I was that, between them and Gigi, I didn’t have to cook often. Not that I hated it, but the mountains of food they went through could be a full-time job. And my moving in here had dried up Samson’s previous source of meals—female shifters, most of them unmated, who “just wanted to make sure the alpha didn’t go hungry.” Yeah, sure.

After whipping the eggs, I put a big pat of butter to melt in a skillet and dug out the crepe pan from the drawer under the big stove and set it to heat on a burner. I would cheat and use canned cherry pie filling, but I’d add a layer of whipped cream cheese to offset the sweetness.
